SUMMARY: there has been a grant received to start females in the game. As well, SMHA along with other MHAs in the Northwest and Northcentral districts are organizing female hockey for girls to play competitive hockey locally and within our region. SMHA will have ice for registered females Sundays around 2 pm during the season ( for girls in Smithers, Houston, Hazelton) and optional female tournaments/ weekends ( more info on poster).

Revelstoke Grizzlies Hockey Development Camp with Lukas Lomicky

We have received some registrations, thanks, however there are quite a few spaces left. If you had expressed interest a month or so ago or are now interested, please register ASAP. Soon, I will need to open this to other MHAs for remaining spaces.

Powerskating, Technical and Tactical Training

In collaboration with the Revelstoke Grizzlies Junior Hockey Team (Ryan Parent, GM), Northern Acceleration (B. Hutchinson) and S.M.H.A.; we have landed an AMAZING opportunity to have such a high calibre, unique coach to be here.

This really is something you will not want to miss. Lukas has respect in the highest competitive levels in the province for his instruction.

Lukas Lomicky Brief Bio:
• Holds a Masters degree in coaching specific to hockey from Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic
• Holds the Czech A license for coaching in Europe, Highest level possible.
• Former assistant coach Junior A, Sparta Prague
• Former skills and video coach, Pro team, Sparta Prague
• Current development coach, HC Energy Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic
• Fluent in English

• High calibre coaching at the younger formative levels can make a significant impact.
• Great for ALL our players!

• The schedule has been structured for more evening time for the convenience of our coaches, while shadowing Lukas, you can gain many interesting, new techniques and help out.

Additional Items:

Powerskating will be 1x/ week starting the first week of Oct. for 4 weeks. Run by Brendan Hutchinson. This will be outside of the regular programming, additional cost, and optional. Therefore, the start of hockey will be division ice and then tryouts will start ?

Ice is in the new arena for the month of September and then both ice surfaces will be open in Oct.

SMHA has secured funding to allow us to offer a few recruitment initiatives this year for Initiation players, registration at $99, please share with friends.

Sets of Intermediate goals for the Cross-ice program have been purchased.

As well, a Female Program will start this year, for girls at all ages and skill levels, ice regularly on Sunday afternoon with scheduled female hockey weekends in the district. More info to follow later this week.

Bantam House and Midget House: We are looking at scheduling games between Houston and Hazelton on a regular basis , perhaps looking at more games in the district , aiming to have more games, perhaps an even number of games to practices.

Steps for registration for 2017-18 season:

1) REGISTER for SMHA season with Hockey Canada:

IMPORTANT NOTE: once you have completed the registration on the Hockey Canada page, you will receive an email that indicates the players Hockey Canada’s #

• Write down your children’s Hockey Canada # as you will need this for the payment process with PlayPay. You can find this Hockey Canada # also on your printed receipt
• Double check your email address as this is important for association communication lists.
• Print a receipt for your records.

IMPORTANT NOTE: once you have completed the registration on the Hockey Canada page, you will receive and email that indicates the players Hockey Canada’s #

• Setup a payment account with PlayPay – Click Create playpay account . Please note that this is the only way we are taking payment.

• Log in to your Playpay account,
o Under “my organizations” search Smithers Minor Hockey and select
• Enter the Hockey Canada # as the account #, enter child’s First and Last name. This step will need to be done for each player being registered.

• Click ‘my payments’ and then click ‘make a payment’.
• Select the association/player from the dropdown, enter the payment reason, payment amount, and click ‘Next’.
• Choose from one of four ways to pay. There is a 2.5% convenience fee to pay by credit card. There is no cost to make payments by e-cheque (i.e., direct debit), bank payment or interac e-Transfer.
We have gone with PlayPay as they have great reviews and we spoke with another minor association directly that has had success and positive reviews to save money with this payment method.
